LIFE SAVING GYNECOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL EXAMS
There Is No Need to Fear – This Perfectly Harmless Procedure! It doesn’t matter whether you’re considered middle-aged, young, or old, or whether you’re sexually active or not, a gynecological examination is absolutely essential for a woman’s health, and must not be ignored or avoided under any circumstances. They’re standard practice for women aged 21 and above, and consist of examinations of the pelvis, the breasts, and tests for STI’s (sexually transmitted infections). Whether you require a PAP smear or not, experts still recommend undergoing an annual well women exam. Here’s a brief, yet in depth look at what you should know about GYN exams.
Menopause is caused by a change in the balance of the body’s sex hormones. In the lead up to the menopause oestrogen levels decrease, causing the ovaries to stop producing an egg each month. Oestrogen is the female sex hormone that regulates a woman’s periods. The fall in oestrogen also causes both physical and emotional symptoms including hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings, and vaginal dryness.

How ever, for women at a higher risk of certain illnesses and diseases, such as women with a history of breast cancer in their families the frequency of the exams should be increased.
What are “PAP Smear” Tests?
A pap smear is a simple, quick and effective way to check for cervical cell changes before they develop into cancer. All women aged 25 years and above who have had sex and /or are sexually active are at risk of developing cervical cancer, and should go for regular pap smear tests.
If the first pap smear is normal, subsequent pap smears can be done once every three years.
